June and I were volunteering at the local Meals on Wheels program. The director knew that we were into country dance, and so she came to us. This grew into the idea of teaching the seniors at the day program, Country Dancing. The program was well received by the seniours.

June's Silver Steppers was born when it was thought that we could possibly raise money for the program. The members started practicing together for demos. Slowly and with some leg work, the word got around that there was a senior country dance group available for entertainment, and all it took was a donation to the Meals on Wheels program.

Well, that was thirteen years ago, and in that time June's Silver Steppers have performed at nursing homes; country fairs; 4H fairs; village, Town and Country senior picnics; NY State Veterans Home, VA hospital, and Special Olympics. They practice twice a week, and this is all voluntary just for the joy of bringing smiles and fun to their audiences.
